Trailer Reception Report · for the Romanchakam team
Romanchakam
Trailer dropped 25 Aug 2026, 8:10 PM IST · in cinemas 3 September 2026 · presented by Sandeep Reddy Vanga
The one thing to take away
Reach is strong - 600K+ YouTube views and 1.5M+ cumulative X impressions in a day - and the press/PR layer reads positive by construction. But strip that out and look at unprompted reaction (X replies, YouTube comments, Reddit): it is a near coin-flip on X and leans negative on YouTube and Reddit, concentrated on trailer editing/pacing, comedy timing, and lead casting (Sumanth Prabhas). The studio's "first U/A for Bhadrakali Pictures" family-friendly angle has not picked up organically anywhere in this sample.
X reply sentiment: pos vs neg
YouTube top comments negative
Promotional narrative vs. organic reaction
The X corpus splits cleanly into two layers: a promotional layer (studio, PR, trade-wire and fan-page accounts reposting event soundbites - positive by construction) and an organic layer (unprompted replies and comments). The two layers tell different stories.
Promotional layer (X)
92 posts across 16 near-identical text clusters, from official/PR/trade accounts
"SEPTEMBER 3rd is the date... get ready for one hilarious ride" and similar copy, reposted by 3-9 accounts each. Plus ~250 trade-press posts quoting launch-event soundbites (idlebrain, 123telugu, Tupaki, NTV, SillyMonks and others) - factual coverage, not personal opinion.
Organic layer (X replies)
34 opinion-bearing replies to the announcement (of 61 total; rest are Spirit/other-film asks, spam, or empty)
47.1% negative vs 41.2% positive, 11.8% neutral. Net slightly negative - not the picture the trend hashtag alone suggests.
Organic layer (YouTube + Reddit)
163 of 392 YouTube comments reviewed (99% of comment likes); r/tollywood thread at 0.38 upvote ratio
52.8% negative vs 11.7% positive by count. The most-liked comments are overwhelmingly critical of trailer cut, comedy, and lead casting.
◆ Every unprompted channel points the same way
X replies, YouTube comments, and Reddit - the three channels nobody was paid or prompted to post on - all land negative-to-mixed on the trailer itself. The positive volume on X comes almost entirely from the promotional layer (studio/PR/trade reposts) and from press coverage of the launch event, not from people reacting to the trailer they just watched.
Sentiment, channel by channel
X - direct replies to the announcement
34 opinion-bearing replies (of 61 total). Excludes 22 pure Spirit/Prabhas or other-film asks, 2 spam, 4 empty-text replies - they carry no view on the trailer.
YouTube - top comments by engagement
163 of 392 comments reviewed in depth (99% of total comment likes). Count-based split, not like-weighted - see caution below.
◆ A note on "like-weighted" sentiment
The single most-liked comment ("looks like a high-budget short film") alone carries 739 of 3,433 total comment likes (21%); the top 8 comments carry 69%. 215 of 392 comments have zero likes. YouTube's default sort surfaces agreement with a few sharp comments, not a vote count of the audience. Read the count-based split above as primary - it still leans clearly negative, just less dramatically than a like-weighted number would suggest.
Reddit - smaller volume, same direction
r/tollywood · main trailer thread
8 comments · 0.38 upvote ratio (more downvotes than up)
- "Trailer ni kuda skip chesi chuse la chesaru" - made me want to skip even the trailer
- "idhi asalu trailer ey kastam ga undhi" - this trailer itself is hard to sit through
- "Teaser was better"
r/Movies___Series · "Poor Trailer Cut"
4 comments · 0.76 upvote ratio · thread title is the poster's own verdict
Original post: "Chemistry is good. Trailer cut is so poor. No proper conveying an emotion other than comedy bits. No natural flow of the trailer." Replies: "Didn't excite much but trusting production house." / "Nothing looks new."
Recurring themes
What the criticism is actually about
Drawn from the negative organic comments/replies across all three platforms
- Trailer cut/editing - "poor flow," "random scenes," comedy beats landing without setup
- Comedy not landing - "didn't laugh once," several "where's the funny part" comments
- Lead casting (Sumanth Prabhas) - repeated "wrong casting choice," "not hero material" comments
- Production scale - "looks like a short film" is the single most-liked YouTube comment
The Spirit / Prabhas tangent, again
24.6% of all 61 direct replies (Part B measured 45% on the announcement)
Smaller than the first-look report, as expected - this time there's an actual trailer to react to. Still a real drag on signal: about a quarter of replies are "Spirit update anna" rather than a view on Romanchakam. A minor further tangent: 4 replies ask about unrelated films (Arjun Reddy re-release, Toxic, The Devil).
◆ The Prabhas Instagram endorsement - still developing
~22 hours after the trailer dropped, Prabhas posted an Instagram story calling it "fun and entertaining" and wishing the team well; it began circulating on X via reposts (@ivdsai@NusratArfah@PrabhasGirlsFC and others) in the last few hours of this capture window. It's a genuine positive signal from the biggest reachable audience (Part B), but it landed too late for this snapshot to show its full effect. Recommend a follow-up pull at T+48h to see whether it shifts the organic numbers above.
◆ The U/A-certificate message hasn't landed organically
The studio's own PR pushed hard on "first time Bhadrakali Pictures gets a U/A instead of A - bring the whole family" (multiple trade-press reposts on X quote it directly from Sandeep Reddy Vanga). It does not appear anywhere in the organic YouTube, Reddit, or reply sample reviewed - nobody is repeating it back. A message that isn't picked up by an interested audience one day after the trailer is a message that needs a second push, not necessarily a bad one.

Same window; India dwarfs every other country
Interest spiked sharply from ~8:30 PM IST on 25 Aug (trailer drop) and peaked around 100 (India-normalized) near 7-9 AM IST on 26 Aug as morning re-watchers searched it up - a clean, trailer-driven spike with no other confound in the window.
What this means for the team
- Address the edit, not just the marketing. "Poor flow," "random scenes," and "didn't laugh once" are the most consistent, most-liked criticisms across YouTube and Reddit. If a re-cut trailer or a second trailer is still possible before 3 Sep, tightening pacing and comedy setup is the highest-leverage fix available.
- Lean into the Prabhas endorsement, hard and fast. It's the strongest organic positive signal in the whole dataset and it's brand new. Push it through official channels (repost, clip it, tag it) before the news cycle moves on - Part B already showed this is the single most reachable audience.
- Don't lead with the U/A-certificate message a second time the same way. It got zero organic pickup in 22-28 hours. Either drop it from the next push or reframe it around something the audience already responds to (the Prabhas connection, the music) rather than the certificate itself.
- Get ahead of the lead-casting question. Skepticism about Sumanth Prabhas specifically (not the film generally) recurs independently on X, YouTube, and Reddit. A behind-the-scenes or interview push that lets him land a joke or a genuine moment could blunt this before release.
- Re-pull at T+48h. This snapshot ends just as the Prabhas endorsement starts spreading. A follow-up read closer to the weekend will show whether organic sentiment actually moves, or whether the edit/casting criticism persists once the endorsement bump fades.
- This is a curated, high-engagement sample, not the full population. X: 451 of a much larger raw trend (deduped from 521 scraped posts). YouTube: 163 of 392 comments reviewed in depth. Treat percentages as directional, not census-grade.
- X "1.5M+ impressions" is cumulative, not unique reach - it is the sum of view counts across 348 organic posts, so the same viewer is very likely counted more than once.
- Instagram was not sampled directly (no reliable read-only tool available at capture time); the Prabhas endorsement is known only via X reposts of his IG story screenshot/text.
- A small regional/dialect undercurrent appeared on all three platforms (2 of 61 X replies, one YouTube sub-thread debating Telangana vs Andhra casting, one Reddit comment removed for rule violations). Flagged for awareness; too small a volume to size as a sentiment driver, and not quoted verbatim here.
